Article--Some Candle Magick

Candle magick is one of the most popular forms of spellcraft available, mostly because of the easy availability of the materials, as well as how inconspicuous it is for a broomcloseted Wiccan to burn candles. Candle magick has been used for generations, probably since the very invention of candles. Though candles can be used for countless intentions, I will discuss here three very basic and generic purposes: drawing, wish, banishing.

In a drawing spell, you use the light and properties of your candle as a sort of beacon, drawing to you your magickal goal. Carving symbols and runes into the candle can influence or strengthen your magick. Basically, a drawing spell consists of pouring into your candle images or thoughts of what you are drawing, why you are drawing it, and optionally how you wish it to manifest, though I find this step a little presumptuous. With or without this third step, this process is called “charging.” Anyway, when you light your candle, it will perform its purpose. Words of power can be added for more affect, spoken during the charging of the candle, and/or during the lighting of the candle.

In a wish spell, you charge the candle with your goal and use the energy of the flame to broadcast the energy, to send it out. As in drawing, you charge your candle and may carve into it symbols, runes, your magickal name, and or the name of a deity appropriate to the spell. Your magickal action again is the lighting of the candle, and words of power may or may not be employed.

In a banishing spell, you charge the candle with what you want banished. If you can sum it up in one word, carve that word into your candle. As the candle melts, speak your words of power and see what you’re banishing melting with it, or being consumed in the candle flame.

Some last-minute advice-- candle magick can be made more effective with the use of herbs, oils, and color correspondences, as well as asking certain deities to bless it, invoking a corresponding element, you get the picture. And when in doubt about spell ethics, remember the Rule of Three and the Rede. Blessed be!

Autumn's Rants--Tools in Ritual

I'm a teen, so I don't have a lot of money for tools. Furthermore, my parents and I have an understanding that I don't "flaunt my beliefs" until I'm out of the house, so I know what it's like for witches who don't have an altar, or a cauldron, or an athame, or ceremonial robes.

You've probably heard it said many times before from many different sources that the tools don't make the witch. And I agree. However, I will not turn my back on centuries of tradition in witchcraft that list things done a certain way simply because I cannot afford an athame.

I'm not saying that a tool makes or breaks a ritual. I am saying that when things are done a certain way for years and years, there is a great deal of power that accumulates in the method.

I'm already planning in my head how my altar will be set up when I get my own place, what kind of candles I will use, how I will represent the quarters in my circle, and where I plan to get a lot of my tools. The fact that I do not have them already does not restrain me from practicing magick, nor from honoring the God and Goddess. But I still look forward to it. Using tools in ritual helps to put a witch in the proper mind frame. A witch using a ceremonial blade used only for magick may feel different about their spell work than one using only her hand when she's just finished washing the dog. Ceremonial robes, altar candles, all of these become part of what defines a ritual: something which puts you in tune with the powers around you which is only used at a specific time and place.

I know I'm not being as coherent or articulate as I'd like to be. I'm actually writing this late at night and posting it to the next morning. But I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I just feel that tools should not be discredited as unnecessary. Technically, they're not necessary to the practice of witchcraft. But one could say the same thing about, say, a wedding dress and wedding bands. Sure, you'll be just as married either way, but there's something special about the dress, and the ceremony, and the rings that will remind you every day for the rest of your life that you're bound to each other.

Autumn's Rants

Every Witch or Wiccan or Pagan has a different opinion on almost anything from everyone else. It's true; aside from a few basics that we hold as tradition, we all feel differently. And there's nothing wrong with that.

This is where you can find an index of every article I write which leans more to the side of opinion than instruction. Some of these are official Rants, whereas others are regular articles which I feel might have gotten a bit opinionated.

Texts--The Charge of the Goddess

Listen to the words of the Great Mother, who was of old also called amongst men Artemis, Astarte, Diana, Melusine, Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Dana, Arianrhod, Isis, Bride and by many other names.

I am the gracious Goddess who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man, upon Earth I give knowledge of the Spirit eternal, and beyond death I give peace and freedom and reunion with those who have gone before; nor do I demand sacrifice, for behold I am the Mother of all living, and my love is poured out upon the Earth. Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess.

She in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of Heaven, whose body encircles the universe. I who am beauty of the green Earth and the white Moon amongst the stars. And the mystery of the waters, and the desire of the heart of man, call unto thy soul. Arise and come unto me, for I am the souls of Nature who gives life to the universe.

From me all things proceed and unto me all things must return. And before my face, beloved of Gods and men, thine inmost divine self shall be enfolded in the rapture of the infinte.

Let my worship be with the heart that rejoices, for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals. And therefore let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honour and humility, mirth and reverence within you.

And you who thinks to seek for me, know thy seeking and yearning shall avail you not, unless you know the mystery, that if that which you seek you find not within thee, you will never find it without thee. Behold I have been with you from the beginning and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

Article--Magickal Names

Most Wiccans have magickal names. Why? They tie them to the Wiccan community, they illustrate parts of themselves they identify with, and most obviously, they sound pretty awesome. This last, however, is not a good reason to choose one. If you use this as your main reason, you will sound like the pretentious newbie you most likely are. A hilarious article on magickal names was written by Lady Pixie Moondrip, but I’ll give you the basics.

1) Uniquity- I guarantee you that if you walk into any circle meeting or Witch moot and say “Hey, Raven,” or “Hey, Morgan,” many witches will answer. I know it’s not fair to those of you who really do feel that these sort of names fit you, but they really won’t distinguish you. If you want, you can always choose a name such as this to be your personal name which you use only in communion with the God and Goddess. I guarantee you that They will at least be able to tell you from all the other Morgans and Ravenwolves.

2) Suitability- Choose something that fits who you are, or a quality in yourself you wish to become mre prominent. I call myself Blythe because it means “Free Spirit,” something I want to be more often. I also on occasion call myself Charisma and/or Songbird, and Autumn because it is both my favorite season (it’s gorgeous) and a time of inner reflections. Basically, don’t call yourself Sunshine if you prey on the souls of lost children, y’know?

3) More Than One- Take me for example. I have several names. I don’t use them based on who I am using them with, but rather on how I feel about them in general. I decided that Blythe Autumn would be my web persona. Many Web-Wiccans use different names for their coven (if they have one), online, with their Deities, and with themselves. Me, I’m not quite that organized, but you do whatever, I guess. But let me say this: You don’t need more than one. More on that later.

4) Pretention- As you’ve probably noticed, I use the word “pretentious” quite a lot. Nothing annoys me more than Witches with names like Lady Morrigan Firewolfstar who flash a huge pentacle around and complain about persecution, shout “NEVER AGAIN THE BURNING TIMES!!!” and claim that Wicca is an ancient religion older than Christianity. Let’s be perfectly clear: Wicca was founded in the late fifties/early sixties based on the works of Gerald Gardner and was based loosely on both ancient paganism AND modern philosophy. So, how does this apply to magickal names? Well, most Wiccans will roll their eyes if you anounce yourself as Lord or Lady anything. They will also be mildly irritated by the use of a Deity’s name; it’s like you are trying to put yourself level with the Gods. And if you call yourself Lady Morrigan or something, you may find yourself taking on the qualities of a powerful but dark Goddess. If you pick a name because you think it sounds cool, WE WILL BE ABLE TO TELL. It is that simple.

To conclude, a magickal name is not necessary. If you want one ‘cos everyone else has one, or ‘cos it would sound totally bitchin’, maybe this is not quite the religion for you. A magickal name is what brings you closer to your spirituality and your spiritual classmates, so to speak. Use it wisely, my son. Daughter. Um, I gotta go now. Yup. *away!!*

Full Moon Tonight

"Welcome precious stone of the night,
Delight of the skies, precious stone of the night,
Mother of stars, precious stone of the night,
Excellency of stars, precious stone of the night."
--Anonymous, translated from Irish

The moon is perhaps the most prominent symbol in Modern Paganism, certainly in Wicca. With it's three cylces, waxing, full and waning, it is the symbol of the Trinity of the Goddess: Maiden, Mother and Crone, plus the "invisible phase," or New Moon, which we will come to later.

The Full Moon is a sacred time, in which the Goddess is at the peak of her power in a given Moon Cycle. Others argue that it is simply the time that the Mother is prominent, but since that leaves the New Moon to the Crone, then the Maiden gets the whole Waxing phase to preside over, which isn't fully balanced, is it? Well, anyway, The Full Moon is an Esbat, a minor holiday, during which the Goddess, particularly the Mother, is honored.

It is also a time for spells and rituals regarding completion, or things that have been building up to finally come to fruition. The moon itself is regarded as an aid to spirituality, therefore the Full Moon can be seen as a time when we should be most Spiritual.

I recently acquired a Moonstone. I plan to use it in my Esbat ritual to absorb some of the moon's energies, so that I may use them in case of an emergency for a spell when the moon phase is not with me.

Think about what the moon means to you. I cannot communicate in words to you the stillness that comes to me from standing on my porch and gazing up at Her, breathing the night air which seems to bear a new scent just from taking notice of her. It feels magic to me, and all at once I feel anticipation within me and feel the power in the air. It feels like running and laughing through a forest at night, hearing other things running with you and to you and all around you, feeling them and laughing. Even in my polluted Southern California town, I suddenly get a whiff of forest air just by staring at the Moon.

What does the Moon do to you?

Daily Life--Little Rituals (cont'd)

Onward we go with our little rituals feature. Let's go through the evening, starting with when I get home from school.

I come through the door, I bring in the mail (Communication, an instance of Air), and after ascertaining that there is nothing in it for me, I drop it on the table by the door. I also drop my backpack by the couch and kick off my shoes, signifying that I am leaving the stresses of the day behind (Water). My pets greet me at the couch, welcoming me back to the house (Earth).

Shortly thereafter, I conduct an exodus to the kitchen for a snack to replenish the energy I have lost during the day (Fire). I tend to read a book during this particular ritual, which I will always maintain is the best exercise for the mind and more specifically, the imagination, the most important tool a witch has (Air). Far more often, however, I am sad to say that I am drawn inevitably into a mindless quagmire of television. This is not to suggest that all TV is mindless; however, the stuff I usualy find myself watching would, and does, bring shame to my mostly literary family. But dammit, there are very few pleasures that can compete with Spongebob Squarpants (Water), or watching Dirty Dancing (Fire) for the 12th time, or Jerry Springer (Also Fire). The television, I might add, is one of the most often overlooked representations of Air in your house, as well as the computer and the radio. Think about it.

Next I must go about feeding the pets (not sure what this means, could relate to paying homage to my connection to the rest of the universe). I then continue with mundane chores such as dishwashing and laundry, both of which are representations of Water. Since the home is often a meetaphor for a character's soul or state of mind in literature, these chores are significant of the daily maintenance one does, often by habit, to keep oneself running along smoothly.

Preparing dinner is another representation of Fire, giving my mind, body, and spirit the fuel it will use to carry me through my nightly tasks when I'm asleep. After that homework, webwork, and webplay, three big connections with Air. Then preparing for bed (Mostly water), reading in bed (Air/Earth), meditation and Ritual (Spirit), and then sleep.

Yes, I know I coasted over a lot of this, but I really think you're getting the idea. Take a look at what you do every evening, why you do it, and what it means to you.

Daily Life--Little Rituals

Ritual: (noun) a customarily repeated often formal act or series of acts

You may or may not have noticed the little rituals sprinkled throughout your day. One thing that helps me tie my life to my beliefs is to reflect on how these rituals correspond with them. Let's start at the beginning of the day. (Note: my series of events is probably in a different sequence than your daily routine, but you get the picture.)

First, the radio-alarm wakes me. This could be symbolic of the voices of the world calling me outside to play. When I swing out of bed and put my feet on the ground, I am immediately reconnecting to the Earth. I get in the shower, one of the most obvious forms of Water in the house. While showering, brushing my teeth, and washing my face, I am both physically and spiritually clearing away all negative and unnecessary energy which clouds my perception and taints how I am received by the world around me, and I finish up with a clean start and a clean slate. When I read the paper, I am using qualities of Communication and Intellect, thus my first connection with Air; when I eat something for breakfast (a ritual I skip far too often), I am fueling my furnace for the Action of the day, connecting me with Fire.

I'll leave it here for now, but think about your own morning routine. You don't have to consciously and constantly think of your toothbrush as a Divine tool of the Goddess, or anything like that; but try to get more out of your morning. Your day is full of opportunities to make connections to yourself and to the world around you. Pick the ones you want to acknowledge.

Tomorrow, I'll discuss evening rituals.

Texts--The Witch's Rune

Eko, Eko, Azarak
Eko, Eko, Zomelak,
Eko, Eko, Aradia,
Eko, Eko, Cernunnos!
Darksome night and shining moon,
Hearken to the Witch's Rune
East, then South, The West, the North,
Here we come to call ye forth
Earthand Water, Air and Fire
Work ye unto our desire
Wand and pentacle and sword
Hearken ye unto our word!
Cords and censer, scourge and knife,
Waken all ye into life.
Powers of the witch's blade--
Come ye as the charm is made!
Queen of Heaven, Queen of Hell,
Lend your power unto the spell.
Horned hunter of the night
Work our will by magick rite!
By all the power of Land and Sea,
As we do will, So Mote it Be!
By all the might of Moon and Sun,
Chant the spell and be it done!

Note: I have also heard other sources say that the rhyming couplets of The Witch's Rune are alternating: "Darksome night and shining moon; East then South, the West, then North; Hearken to The Witch's Rune; Here we come to call ye forth!" etc. I think I prefer it that way, actually.

Article--Spells and Why I Don’t Give Them Out Excessively

When someone hears the terms “witch” and “wiccan,” they usually associate it with spells. To be specific, the difference between spells and prayers can generally be explained thusly: a prayer is asking outside forces for help; a spell is using your own power to affect change. A spell basically consists of raising energy, charging energy, pouring it into any materials being used, and releasing it through magickal words and actions.

Now, if you’ve come to this page, it’s probably because you want spells. Well, I’m not going to just hand them out all the time, myself. Most Wiccan Webmasters would say it’s because spells are personal, and they work best when written by the witch performing them, which is true. However, a more practical reason I don’t give spells is because once you give one spell, people ask you for more. Sad and cynical, but generally true. Occasionally you will see a spell here, but not all the time

Anyway, onward. Wiccan spells are written in conformity with the Wiccan Rede and often the Rule of Three. Basically, no manipulative magick that interferes with another individual’s free will. This of course means that specific love spells are out.

“Oh, but Billy really does love me, he’s just too shy to say anything!” you say? Bullshit. I’m sorry, but if you really love Billy, and he really loves you, you should be willing to wait for him to say something instead of forcing an emotion him. Furthermore, any affair resulting from a specific love spell is artificial, meaning that it will constantly need your magickal energy poured into it in order to “work.” It will also most likely end in pain for both parties.

“But what is all this about specific love spells?” Well, a specific love spell is trying to make a particular person like you. A non-specific love spell would be to bring love into your life. You can even specify what qualities you are looking for in a lover, just so long as you don’t target any one person. These kind of love spells are okay as long as you’re careful.

Healing spells can also be viewed as inappropriate. True, you are only trying to help someone, but if you don’t ask them first, you are interfering without their consent, thus manipulating, thus not cool. Healing prayers are ok, because the God/dess(es) have the ability to use their discretion and anything they do will be their fault, not yours :). Just kidding. So ask someone before you cast for them.

Spells also have to make sense. Sorry, you can not defy the laws of physics like they do in The Craft (dammit), and you can’t do a spell for a million dollars to fall into your lap RIGHT NOW (also dammit). Because spells gently direct natural energies, they will manifest in natural ways. A money spell will manifest itself through you improving your financial skills, and maybe an unexpected raise.

Spells must also be backed up on the natural plane. Let’s say you do a general love spell. If you stay at home eating Fritos and watching the Oxygen network, you’re probably not going to meet Mr. or Ms. Right. That’s not to say you should sleep with every bipedal organism you come across, but try to be social.

Though there are many forms of spellcraft, don’t assume that it is set in stone that you MUST use a certain spell for any given purpose. One thing that makes witchcraft so beautiful is that you can personalize it. One witch’s wealth spell will almost always be different from another’s. However, this doesn’t mean you can totally ignore the practices and correspondences set down by the witches that came before you. A wealth spell may be different, but it generally uses the same herbs and colors and deities another witch might use. These are tried and tested methods, and they work for a reason. No matter how you cut it, Poseidon will never be a fire God, and you can’t make him one.

You may hear some Wiccan Witches tell you that harmful magick does not exist, or that it is never justified under any circumstances. In my experience, they are wrong. It does exist, it does work, and in some cases, it is justified. Ever heard of self-defense? So I suggest you build up an emergency repertoire of basic curses and hexes for extenuating circumstances.

Lastly, spells are not the easy answer to all your problems. If you want to do a spell for something, check to see if you have exhausted all the “normal” options. Spells are special and should be treated as such. And please? Don’t go around telling all your non-Wiccan friends about the spells you’ve been casting so you can impress them. It’s annoying, it’s pretentious, arrogant, and it annoys all of us more mature Wiccans. Don’t do it, please.

Prayers/Chants--Prayer to Air

Because Air is less "physical" than the other elements, we will have to use a go-between medium. I chose paper.

On a breezy day, write the following on a piece of paper:

"I pray to the Air
And the God/dess(es)/Spirit(s) that govern it
(prayer content here)
So mote it be."

Fold it once and write your magickal name on the outside as a sort of return address, and draw anything that symbolizes air to you (there is a good symbol database at About Pagan/Wiccan Religion) as the sending address. Rip the prayer into bits, or burn it in your Prayer/Altar candle. Scater the pieces/ashes to the wind, not watching where they fall. Instead visualize the wind carrying your plea to your deity, to the elements, etc.

Prayers/Chants--Prayer to Earth

Find a peaceful place in nature. It can be a backyard or a park, or even a community garden, but preferably somewhere where you can be relatively alone. Take a moment to center yourself, to commune with nature. Listen to the sounds of the earth, feel the vibrations of the earth, smell the scent of the grass.

Now dig a small hole in the earth with your bare hands. Lean close and whisper to it:

"I pray to the Earth,
And the God/dess(es)/Spirit(s) that govern it
(Prayer content here)
Blessed Be."

"Bury" your prayer in the hole, and visualize it taking root, like a plant, deep into the earth and growing to fruition.

Prayers/Chants--Prayer to Water

Continuing with our "Praying to the Elements" series, here is a method to pray to water.

Hold your hands, palm down over a cup/chalice/bowl/cauldron of water. Center yourself and imagine pure personal energy, representing the intent of your prayer, flowing from that center (usually somewhere behind your navel) and out of your hands into the water. Chant the following:

"I pray to the Water
And the God/dess(es)/Spirit(s) that govern it
(prayer content here)
Blessed Be."

Pour the water into the earth, preferably at the base of a tree, or down a drain, carrying your prayer through the earth to all things.

Prayers/Chants--Prayer to Flame

Sometimes, we feel that our prayers need a little extra oomph. One way to do this is to pray to the elements, depending on what the prayer content is. This, and the next three articles, will discuss methods of this.

For this particular method, you can keep a special "prayer candle" on your altar that you use solely for this ritual, or you can simply light a match. In fact, if you find reasons for prayer often in your day, you can carry a book of matches or even a cigarette lighter for this purpose.

Light your match or candle. Take a moment to center yourself if you can (when using only a match, it's a good idea to center before you light it). Look deep into the flame. Consider its qualities, its correspondence to what you're praying for. Say your prayer. One that works well is this:

"I pray to the Flame,
And the God/dess(es)/Spirit(s) that govern it,
(prayer content here)
Blessed Be."

Blow or snuff the flame out and watch the smoke flowing upwards, imagining it carrying your prayer to the heavens.

Article--Flexing Your Magick Muscle (And Your Wiccan Will, Too!)

For Witches and Wiccans alike, it's hard sometimes to practice your craft and your religion when you don't have a spell you need to cast or a sabbat or esbat to celebrate. But religion is a way of life, and is called a "practice" for a good reason: you must practice it. Seems simple, right? It's common sense that the spell of a witch who has practiced for years will work better than that of a novice who is only just starting.

But unlike a musical instrument or a sport, there are not many obvious exercises a Witch or Wiccan can perform...or so you thought. Here are some simple techniques for keeping your practice and your religion in top physical form.

Meditation-An oldie, but a goodie. Meditation as described in a yogic context is defined as a state of pure consciousness, untroubled by the many thoughts and tasks your mind performs all at the same time. Essentially, it is the slowing down and ultimate complete stop of thought. It is important because once your thought is stopped you may concentrate on one thing with all of your being. Of course it gets you more in tune with your own magickal energy, and of course you become more in tune with the world around you as well as the world within you. But meditation also has the physical benefits of decreased stress and increased awareness. Ever heard of one moment you will never forget? The one where you will remember everything? Now you may end up with even more of those moments.
One simple meditation technique: sit or lie down in a quiet and relaxed position. Become aware of your breathing. Now become aware of the sounds around you without becoming emotionally attached to any of them. Notice them as you might notice people passing in and out of a train station; notice one and move on to the next. Your mental list of sounds may go something like this: "Breath. Voices. Air conditioner. Music. Voices. Breath. Car. Horn. Footsteps." If you "run out of sounds" (the more you do this, the less it will happen), start back at the top again. Slowly your awareness will shrink only to what you are hearing, and for a moment you may become aware of exactly how relaxed every bit of your body feels. You will be aware of voices, but not what they are saying. This is called "Mindfulness Meditation."

Visualization-Often confused with meditation its self, visualization is technically a meditation technique. So much of magick consists of visualizing your intent, pouring energy into tools, visualizing the energy going out, etc. But it's a lot harder than it sounds to keep your mind on one image. Practice first with something simple. Imagine a blank white wall. Now project different colors onto it. True you won't actually "see" with your optical nerves, but you will see it in your mind's eye. Now move on to more complicated images. Now start to experience these images with all of your senses. Imagine, say, an apple. How it tastes, how it smells, how it feels, how it looks, and how it sounds. Ok, maybe apples don't make noise, but still.

Ritual- Whether you are casting a spell or celebrating a holiday, ritual is the basis of all Wicca, and for most Wiccan Witches, all spellcraft. This is where you commune with the Lord and Lady, with the quarters; in effect, with the universe. But many a witch has ruined a ritual by faltering through circle casting steps she has not practiced since the last sabbat a month earlier. So to my mind, one should hold a ritual just for the sake of communion at least twice a week.

Divination- Y'know, when people ask me why divination works, I like to go for this rather long quote from Douglas Adams from Mostly Harmless, the last book in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series, when an astrologer is explaining how astrology works to an alternate-reality version of Tricia MacMillan: "The rules just kind of got there. They don't make any sense except in terms of themselves. But when you start to exercise those rules, all sorts of processes start to happen and you start to find out all sorts of stuff about people...It's like throwing a handful of fine graphite dust on a piece of paper to see where the hidden indentations are. It lets you see the words that were written on the piece of paper above it that's now been taken away and hidden. The graphite's not important. It's just a means of revealing their indentations." Basically, what it's saying is that astrology, as well as any other form of divination, works because the rules are arbitrary.
That being said, divination is a wonderful way to keep the Craft in your life. It helps you see things in a completely different light, how things may turn out, and what you can do to change their occurence. It gives you a read on yourself, bringing things in your subconscious up to the surface.

Daily Devotion- What I refer to as "ritual lite." These are little things you do every day tied to daily occurences that help remind you of the presence of the Lord and Lady in the world around you. Many wiccans say a devotion every morning, every night and before meals. Then there are the random devotions that occur to us throughout the day, perhaps if it suddenly starts raining, or you just notice what a beautiful day it is. Yes, yes, I know, I'm sounding completely overly cheerful flower-child. But devotions are really great.

Energy Experience-Everything contains energy. The trees outside. The grass. Hell, the sidewalk attracts a lot of energy beaten into it by the passers-by. Just for fun, while you're walking to school or through the park or something, feel the energy inside of plants, stones, or other things around you: what color is it? Is it warm or cold? Does it have a texture?

Cleansing-Ok, I think we all went a little magick-crazy the first time we discovered it. Didn't you ever cleanse or consecrate the pencil you found at the bottom of your backpack? Seriously though, find objects that are important to your work or your life and cleanse them. Charge them with your own personal energy. I cleansed my laptop and now it actually runs faster. You needn't hold full ritual consecrations, just take a moment, feel your own cleansing energy run through it and push out the negativity. Make it yours.

Magick Shopping- Consume! It's the American Way! No, seriously folks, you find some awesome stuff if you go into a New Age store every now and then. For instance, I had a used Tarot deck I was having trouble cleansing, and I went into a store and saw exactly what would do the trick: quartz. Quartz is the easiest crystal to dedicate to any purpose, and once I charged it with cleansing and put it near the deck, it cleared right up. Magickal shops just tend to have a lot of magick energy pulsing around in there from the various products they carry, and it's very refreshing.

Tend an Herb Garden-Even if it's only one plant, herbs you grew yourself when used in ritual are automatically charged with your personal energy and more likely to be charged with the intent of a particular ritual. Tending plants is also very peaceful, and nourishes your own maternal instinct to nurture and take care of things. It's also a great way to keep in touch with the natural world. Just don't neglect your plants--it's not they're fault that you may not have enough time for them.

Journaling-Some use their BoS, but I prefer to keep a seperate journal, a blog actually. When you are in touch with yourself and your needs, you can accomadate them accordingly. You know what you need to do for yourself before you can do something else. It also really helps to vent once in a while.

There are many other techniques you can use: poetry writing, exercise, chakra and energy work, crystal work, etc. These are just a few to get you started. Blessed be!

In the News--'Witch' to be thrown into river

Saw this today. The question is, do you think the girl's telling the truth, or is she faking persecution?

'Witch' was to be thrown into river? - Yahoo! News

Welcome to the Wiccan Woods

I used to have a website of this title. It didn't work out. So instead, I am going to have The Wiccan Woods as a sort of daily meditation archive, so to speak. Everyday, I will try to write about something related to the world of Wicca. It could be a news article, it could be a new ritual, a holiday, or a poem.

The reason is mostly a selfish one, I confess. This is a way for me to practice something of my religion everyday, and also an ego-boost; y'know, the idea that someone is learning something from you?

I digress.

Come around sometime.
